Littleborough is a small town encircled by Pennine hills. It hosts two festivals a year: the Rushbearing at the end of July and the Arts Festival in September, both are growing in popularity. It has a mixture of independent shops and has a couple of small supermarkets where you can buy essential groceries.

It has a number of restaurants to suit most tastes and pockets. Demetris Greek Nights at the Coach House and the
Rake Tapas are very popular with locals, the Rake also has opened the 'Little Deli' which is very handy for guests to Fielden Farm. The centre has three wine bars including 'Bar Wizards' and has a lively night life at weekends.

The Historic railway station is next to the square, the ticket office is currently being renovated as the new home of Littleborough Historical and Archeological Society. From Littleborough Station, Manchester is only half an hour away and Leeds, in the other direction, an hour.

Fielden Farm is 5 minutes drive from Littleborough. It is easy to walk down (see the walking page for guides) as it is all downhill and takes 10-15 minutes. Coming back takes a bit longer unless you are super fit... but.... you can take a bus which is every 2 hours and taxis are inexpensive to the farm or to the end of the lane.

Hollingworth Lake, a mile or so away and is a lovely walk from the farm along Ealees valley. It was built in the late eighteenth century as a reservoir for the Rochdale Canal. It has been a popular holiday destination since then and was known in Victorian times as 'The Weighvers Seaport'. It hosts a rowing and sailing club and the local authority run a new Watersport Activity Centre. Part of the lake has been designated as a wetland habitat and a hide has been built for Ornithologists. There are cafes and restaurants on the Lake Bank and a Visitors Centre which is a good source of local information.
Blackstone Edge boasts a Roman Road! There is however much debate and speculation as to whether the straight road that runs over Blackstone Edge is actually Roman or whether it is a packhorse route.
Littleborough Local is a great source to find out what is going on and also has an archive of photographs of the area.
